Vending Machine Electrical and Site Requirements: What Facilities Teams Need to Know

Review circuits, outlets, ventilation, floor space, access and connectivity before vending equipment arrives.

2 minute read

Vending equipment is easy to use but it is still commercial equipment. Refrigeration, lighting, payment readers and internal motors all depend on a site that has been checked before delivery.

Facilities teams prevent most installation problems by confirming power, clearances and access for the actual model rather than relying on a generic breakroom sketch.

Confirm power for the selected equipment

Obtain the model specifications and confirm voltage, plug type and dedicated-circuit guidance. Refrigerated machines can draw more power when compressors start.

Avoid extension cords and shared strips. Have a qualified electrician address missing or questionable outlets before delivery.

Provide ventilation and service clearance

Cooling equipment needs airflow, and technicians need access to panels, doors and refrigeration components. A machine pressed tightly into cabinetry can run hot and become difficult to repair.

Allow safe customer circulation and restocking space. Keep the bank away from direct sun, moisture and other heat-producing equipment.

Measure the complete delivery route

Check docks, exterior doors, elevators, turns and final doorways. Record stairs, thresholds and flooring that requires protection.

Coordinate security, insurance and elevator reservations. The machine fitting its final wall does not mean it can reach that wall.

Test payment connectivity

Cashless readers may use cellular, Wi-Fi or another managed connection. Test reception at the exact machine location, especially in concrete or below-grade rooms.

Ask what happens during an outage and who supports the reader. Network responsibility should be clear before launch.

Questions to include in every proposal

  • Exact equipment model and electrical specifications
  • Outlet and circuit location
  • Ventilation and service clearance
  • Door, elevator and hallway measurements
  • Network or cellular reception
  • Approved delivery window and site contact

Frequently asked questions

Does every vending machine need a dedicated circuit?

Requirements vary by model and local conditions. Follow the manufacturer and electrician’s guidance.

Can machines sit against a wall?

They need the specified ventilation and service clearance. Confirm it before placement.

Who pays for electrical work?

The workplace or property owner commonly provides compliant power unless the agreement states otherwise.

Should Wi-Fi credentials be shared?

Only through the company’s approved security process. Many readers use cellular service instead.

Request vending prices with photos and measurements so installation costs are not guessed.
